Water on the Agenda at our Committee Meeting on Tuesday September 25 at 7PM

Kyle Bagenstose is an environmental reporter on The Intelligencer's investigative team. He also writes for the Bucks County Courier Times and covers environmental issues in Bucks and eastern Montgomery Counties. For the past two years he has extensively covered major drinking water contamination along the BuxMont border stemming from the use of firefighting foams at area military bases. He also regularly writes on pollution, development, industry, wildlife, and environmental policy issues. He has won 10 journalism awards in the past two years, including a national award for in-depth reporting from the Society of Environmental Journalists.

Voter 'Touch Base' Activity Wednesday Night

We have many Democratic voters in Horsham who reliably vote. In the effort to register new voters and Get Out the Vote, these voters can sometimes be overlooked. We will be calling reliable voters on Wednesday to 'touch base', make sure they have the facts about our candidates, and see if they want to do more. Do they need more information? Do they want to put a sign on their lawn? Do they have time to canvass their street? We do not take them for granted. Now is the time to ask.

Activities like this are key to a successful campaign. Will you help us do these simple things to help elect Democratic Candidates in Horsham? Meet us at 7PM on Wednesday at the Coordinated Campaign office at 714 N Bethlehem Pike Suite 200, Ambler at 7PM. See you there!

Lisa Cellini Appointed to the Environmental Advisory Board

At the last meeting of Horsham Council, the council approved, in a unanimous vote, the appointment of Lisa Cellini to the Environmental Advisory Board. Secretary of the Horsham Democratic Committee, Lisa has worked hard to understand the water issues in Horsham and earned the respect of members of council for her efforts. With a background in Public Health, Lisa will be a valuable contributor to the Environmental Advisory Board and we congratulate her on her appointment.

Horsham has numerous committees with open spots. Advisory committees are a good way to give back to the community in a way appropriate to your interests, experience, and expertise. Campaign News and Events

Coordinated Campaign Events

We are about 60 days away from what some say is the most important election in years. We are ready to start phone banking to get the word out about our great candidates for state legislature, Sara Johnson Rothman (HD-151) and Maria Collett (SD-12). You know their names, but many voters in Horsham do not know them.   You can change that by spending an hour or two making some calls over the next 10 days.

We want to make 900 calls to voters in the 4th Ward, and here is how you can make that happen:

1. Pick up a call packet at campaign headquarters, 714 N Bethlehem Pike, Suite 200, Ambler 19002. To arrange a pickup, call or text the campaign at 610.613.8610 to arrange a time.

2. If you are an experienced caller, you can make your calls from home, if you want to.

3. If you are new to calling, or would rather call with othersfrom the office, bring your phone.  The campaign staff will train you and be with you when you make your first calls. Once you feel comfortable, you may finish your calls from home, or stay and make calls from headquarters; it's your choice.

That's all there is to it. Phoning is an effective way to reach voters, especially in areas, like the 4th, that can be difficult to walk.

Remember the old joke:  How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time! If you and a few others are able to make some calls, we will meet our goal.

Will YOU be a Candidate for School Board or Town Council?

The 2019 Municipal and School Board elections are a little more than 14 months away. If you are thinking of running, or know someone who would be a good candidate, now is the time to come forward and begin to prepare. Campaigns will kick off shortly after the November Mid-Term election. There has never been a better time to run for office in Horsham. Will you make a difference?

Richard Buttacavoli, Vice-Chair, Montgomery County LGBT Business Council, spoke at our August 21st Meeting

The Mission of the Montgomery County LGBT Business Council is to create networking, social and business opportunities for LGBT business professionals and allies in Montgomery County. Their vision is to provide support to the Montgomery County business community through education, training, professional development, policy advocacy and adaptation to ensure that workplace environments are welcoming and inclusive regardless of sexual orientations and gender identities.

We had a full house for this presentation about LBGT business and social issues. The following action items were recorded:

  1. Explore proposing a non-discrimination ordinance at council;
  2. Explore working with the LBGT Business Council on outreach to businesses in Horsham;
  3. Work toward organizing a Pride event in Horsham.

To accomplish these goals we are setting up an LGBT Activities action team. If you would like to be part of the team addressing these goals, please reply to this email and let us know!

Campaign News and Events

Coordinated Campaign Events

We are about 70 days away from what some say is the most important election in years.

1. Pick up a call packet at campaign headquarters, 714 N Bethlehem Pike, Suite 200, Ambler 19002 on Wednesday, August 29, between 4pm-9pm. If you can't make it then,  call or text the campaign at 610.613.8610 to arrange another time.

Be Part of the Action August 4th

By now you have seen the big news about our Day of Action this Saturday.  Former Governor Martin O’Malley will be here as we engage with voters in Horsham to support Sara Johnson Rothman and Maria Collett.

If you are not able to canvass, you can still be a part of this great kick off to the fall campaign here in Horsham.  We will have  a phone bank at the new campaign headquarters 714 N Bethlehem Pike, Suite 200, Ambler 19002.  Bring your phone. We will have call sheets, scripts, and provide training.  If the weather does not cooperate, we will have even more need for callers. So rain or shine, come on down at 11:00 AM (new time), meet Governor O’Malley and our candidates, and make some calls to make a difference!

If instead of making call you are tempted to try door-to-door canvassing, or to get back to it after taking a break, this a great opportunity. We will canvassing in the third ward, one of the most walkable areas of the township. Now is the time to build name recognition for Sara and Maria.  There will other opportunities to make phone calls, but we can’t promise another chance to canvass with Governor O’Malley.

We will have training and can send you out with an experienced canvasser.  So, grab a hat, water and sunscreen and meet at 11:00 AM at the newly opened campaign headquarters at 714 N Bethlehem Pike, Suite 200, Ambler 19002.

We hope to see you Saturday!

Note the change of location for canvassing staging from "Peggy's barn" to the new headquarters. We will also be writing messages to voters on postcards that the campaigns will stockpile and use to get out the vote on November 6.  If you can stop by headquarters after 11 on Saturday morning, that is another way to help change happen.

Meet at Peggy's barn, 524 Cedar Hill Road, for training, walk sheets, and candidate information. Walk in teams, engage with voters, make a direct impact in the upcoming election. Shira Goodman of CeaseFirePA Keynoted Horsham Dems Meeting July 17th

More than 20 people showed up for our committee meeting on July 17th. Shira Goodman provided us with an informative discussion about efforts to deal with gun violence within the Pennsylvania Legislature.

This issue seems especially powerful in Pennsylvania. According to a news report today:

"The Parkland generation is registering to vote in serious numbers in swing states. Young people comprised 61% of new registrants in Pennsylvania, a 16-point increase. Virginia and Indiana saw 10-point increases, and Arizona and Florida saw 8." https://t.co/b5y82meI3v

Many thanks to Shira for visiting our committee and helping us understand this important and complex issue.

According to the EPA the event will run as follows:

  • 9:30 a.m.: Registration
  • 10 a.m.: Welcome and PFAS National Leadership Summit Recap
  • 10:30 a.m.: EPA PFAS Research and Federal Panel on PFAS Activity in Pennsylvania
