Following Pennsylvania’s State Supreme Court reveal of congressional district lines, Shira Goodman has announced for the newly created 4th District made up of Montgomery County and part of Berks.
Shira Goodman is a life-long resident of Montgomery County, growing up in Abington and graduating from Abington High School. After attending college at the University of Michigan and law school at Yale, Shira returned to Montgomery County and is now raising her sons with her husband Alan Woronoff. Their eldest, Jason, is a senior at Upper Dublin High School and Brandon is a freshman. Alan is a radiologist working at Abington Hospital, Jefferson Health System. The Goodman family have been longtime members of Congregation Adath Jeshurun in Elkins Park, and Shira's family is now also actively involved with Temple Sinai in Dresher. Shira is currently the Executive Director of CeaseFirePA, Pennsylvania's largest gun violence prevention organization.
“After spending my career fighting for government reform and against gun violence, I'm stepping up to serve in a different capacity," said Goodman. "I'm tired of the weak politicians in Washington offering thoughts and prayers while they turn a blind eye to the murder of our children and ignore the pain of grieving families. This year, when Democrats take back the majority, I will stop at nothing to hold Congress and this administration accountable for the human costs of their failure to act.”
Since announcing a potential run after realizing there may be a new Montgomery County based congressional seat, Goodman has raised over $80,000 and has met with many leaders in the community. The new congressional lines create a district made up of nearly all of Montgomery County and a slice of Berk's Southeastern border.
"We deserve to be represented by a progressive voice and after the voters hear my message about gun violence prevention, economic fairness, protecting women's reproductive rights, and fighting for Dreamers, I hope they will select me to fill that role," said Goodman.
