You must register before you can vote. It is a relatively simple process. First you must meet the following criteria:
- At least 18 years old by election day
- Citizen of the US at least 30 days prior to election day
- Resident of PA and your voting district at least 30 days before the election
You need to complete a voter registration form. You can submit your form at the Montgomery County Voter Services office or mail one in. They are available at most public offices including municipal buildings, libraries and liquor stores. Your local committeeperson also can send you a voter registration form. Simply request a voter registration form and we will be happy to mail one to your home. Please include your name, address and phone number in your request.
Your form must be delivered to Voter Services at least 30 days before Election Day. The last day to register for the 2012 Primary Election is March 26, 2012.
Once the Montgomery County’s registration office receives, processes, and accepts your voter registration form, they will send you a Voter Identification Card within 14 days of your application. If you do not receive a card, you can contact the Voter Services office at 610-278-3280. Your Voter Identification Card will list your polling place. You can also find your polling place here.
To Change Your Name, Address, or Party Affiliation
You can change any of your voter registration information using the same form. Simply check the appropriate box(es) — “Change of Name,” “Change of Address,” “Change of Party” — and enter the old and new information.
If I registered through Penn DOT, how will I know where to vote?
If you registered to vote when you applied for a license or had that license renewed, Voter Services should be informed by PennDOT. If you do not receive a voter ID card soon after your license is issued or changed, you should call the Voter Registration office at 610-278-3280.
Do I need to present identification to vote?
All first-time voters, including those who are voting in a new precinct for the first time, will be required to present identification. Valid forms of ID include your driver’s license, passport, a valid identification card issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or United States government, including the Armed Services, or valid student or employee identification card. You may also use non-photo forms of identification such as a paycheck, utility bill, current bank statement or documents issued by the Commonwealth or United States government that show your voter registration address.
If you have any other questions please contact Voter Services at 610-278-3280. They are very helpful and want to make sure all qualified Pennsylvanians vote.
